For me, there’s nothing like adding a new record to the collection - and taking care of your records is the most important for longevity. While not everyone may agree on how to store records, here’s how I store my records.

Example of how my vinyl look when stored
- Depending on the quality of the inner sleeves, I may or may not replace them. If it looks old, or if it isn’t in an anti-static sleeve, I will replace it. If the records come in paper sleeves, I will definitely get rid of those and put them in anti-static sleeves. I’ve used two kinds before (1) (2) and tend to prefer the “round bottom” sleeves.
- I remove the insert from the inside and put it outside behind the record. I also do the same thing with the freshly changed record. (see picture)
- Lastly, I make sure all my records are in resealable sleeves. I prefer these more than the open ones but that is just a personal preference. I’ve used these in the past but highly recommend these. Note: some are stronger than others so it comes down to your preference.
✌️ Your Choice
After you’ve been into vinyl for a while, you’ll find items that you like to increase longevity and take care of your vinyl. Think of it as more of an investment; even if in 5 years you’re not listening to that album and have gotten rid of it, the next person can get the enjoyment and pass on the love of the record.
I like to take care of items that I own and while vinyl is such a fun hobby, I hope to take care of it as long as I can!
